Kolkata: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the report submitted by Jadavpur University (JU) to UGC related to student death case is "not satisfactory."
"It its a very disturbing incident that happened in Jadavpur University. Due to ragging a young student died. There is no place for ragging in educational institutions. Several things needs to be checked like why former students were allowed to stay in hostel? Why was CCTV cameras not in stalled? I have heard that during the tenure of previous vice chancellor CCTV cameras was installed then why was it removes. All UGC acts against ragging should be implemented," said Pradhan.
Slamming the West Bengal government, the Union Education Minister said that the state government 'cannot deny their responsibilities by just chanting slogans'.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal Governor and Chancellor of the Jadavpur University CV Ananda Bose on Saturday late evening had appointed Buddhadeb Sau, Department of Mathematics, Jadavpur University to exercise the powers and perform the duties of the Vice Chancellor of the Jadavpur University.
Talking to the media, Sau on Sunday said that he will take necessary actions to make the security strong in the varsity.
"Whether installation of CCTV cameras or human surveillance or anything else is needed will be thought. What matters the most is increasing the security. We will speak with necessary people over the same," said Sau.
On the other hand, while being taken to the police station after being produced at sessions court one of the arrested former student claimed in front of the media that they are being 'framed'.
"No ragging took place and the dead student jumped from the corridor. We are being framed just because we are poor," said the former student without mentioning his name.
