The Mumbai Police is likely to record the statement of actor Ranveer Singh in connection with the case related to a nude photoshoot for a magazine registered last month. The police are likely to record his statement by August 22, sources said.
“We contacted Ranveer Singh for further inquiries but it was known that he is out of town till August 16. He has assured us that he will cooperate with us in the investigation upon arrival in the city. A notice will be served to him once he returns to the city and probably his statement will be recorded by August 22," said a police officer.
Last month, a non-government organisation and a Mumbai-based lawyer submitted separate applications to the Chembur police, seeking that an offence be registered against him.
Earlier, a statement issued by the Mumbai Police had said, "Actor Ranveer Singh posted his nude pictures online as well as published them in a magazine and earned money for them. At the same time, he tried to corrupt the young generation and spoil society. Further, his actions led to a feeling of shame in the minds of women. Hence, based on the complainant's statement, an FIR has been registered against him."
Singh had been booked for sale of obscene material and insulting a woman's modesty under the Indian Penal Code, along with publication of sexually explicit material under the Information Technology Act.
Even as the debate about “his body-his rules” was raging, a Mumbai-based advocate filed an FIR with the Chembur police against Ranveer, allegedly for ‘hurting sentiments of women’.
An NGO had also alleged that Ranveer had "hurt the sentiments of women in general and insulted their modesty through his photographs".
It may be mentioned that in the past few days, Ranveer's actor friends and film industry colleagues, including Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Twinkle Khanna, Swara Bhasker, Pooja Bedi and Ram Gopal Varma, supported the Bollywood star over the controversy.
