Woman succumbs after being thrashed by hubby

BHOPAL : A 25-year-old woman died after allegedly being thrashed by her husband on Saturday at Habibganj locality here. The police have so far registered the matter under Section 174 of CrPC and have sent the body for post-mortem examination.

According to the police, identified as Rani Batham, the woman, originally a resident of Gwalior, used to live with her husband, Upendra Batham and in-laws in Shyam Nagar area at Habibganj. On Saturday at around 6 am, Upendra, a driver in a bungalow in Habibganj, entered into a heated argument with Rani, which eventually turned into a scuffle. During the scuffle, Upendra hit her inflicting serious damages on her head and abdomen due to which she collapsed on the ground.

After seeing her collapsed in the floor, Upendra fled from the house after which his father Shyamlal rushed her to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. In the initial investigations it has been found that Upendra often used to beat up Rani after entering into altercations. However, no case was registered as the reasons behind her death would be ascertained only after the autopsy. The police have informed the deceased’s parents about the incident and investigations are on.
