Bhopal: A spell of hailstorm coupled with rains and strong winds, which lashed the state capital for just 15 minutes, paralysed normal life on Sunday. Trees were uprooted that disrupted traffic flow at various routes. Many colonies plunged in darkness due to load shedding as twigs fell on power supply lines. However, no causality was reported.
The tents and hoardings collapsed at Jamboori, BHEL, where preparations for farmers’ convention are on at war footing. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will distribute cheques under Bhavantar Yojana to farmers on Monday.
Hailstorm and rain created chaos as visitors tried to protect themselves at science fair, which is being held at BHEL Dussehra Ground. Stalls collapsed in the fair. Stalls of Brahmos and food stalls were badly damaged.
Trees fell all on roads at Shahpura, Anna Nagar, Piplani, Sonagiri, Link Road No-3 (Char Imli), Indrapuri, Awadhpuri, Tulsi Nagar, Mata Mandir, Bhadbhada and Shivaji Nagar.
In Piplani, as tree fell on house of Yashwant Verma. Three rooms were completely damaged. Bhopal Municipal Corporation administration deployed its teams to clear the traffic. Hails struck windows. Flowering plants and saplings fell down as earthen pots broke down.
Yashwant Verma said, “Three rooms have been completely damaged. Fortunately, no one was injured. All of sudden, speedy wind blew and tree fell on house.”
More rains, hailstorm likely
According to meteorological department, rain and thundershowers are likely to occur at many places in Gwalior, Chambal, Hoshangabad, Jabalpur, Shahdol, Rewa, Sagar divisions and at isolated places over rest of the state. Hailstorms are likely at isolated places in Gwalior, Chambal, Rewa divisions besides Betul, Harda, Chhindwara, Narsingpur, Seoni, Anuppur districts in next 24 hours.
