BHOPAL : Many Dengue cases may be going unrecorded in the State as several private hospitals of the capital are sending blood samples of suspected patients direct to Mumbai for testing. Though there is no dearth of facilities for testing blood samples for the presence of Dengue virus in the city but many private hospitals are sending samples to Mumbai, in addition to local pathology labs as a matter of precaution.
In case of Dengue, blood platelet count drops drastically and rapidly. There is heavy rush of Dengue patients in private hospitals. Intensive Care Units (ICU) are full. Blood samples are sent to local pathology labs, some of which forward it to Mumbai-based labs.
Dr Anil Shukla, Superintendent of JP Hospital said, “All the necessary Dengue tests are done in JP and Hamidia Hospitals. If some private hospitals are sending blood samples to Mumbai, it may be just to make sure that there are no other viral complications.”
Dr Umesh Sharda, who runs the private Sharda Hospital said, “We send blood samples to the Malaria Department of the state government but there are some pathology labs like Lal Pathology and Ranbaxy Pathology which send their samples to Mumbai and they get results from Mumbai”.
