Ratlam : The migrated bird ‘Kharmor’ (Lesser Floricon) has ultimately started arriving in district and two such birds have been sighted in the Shikarwadi area of Sailana. This year due to delay in the rains the question was being raised amongst the bird lovers as to when the guest bird Kharmor will start arriving as normally the bird starts arriving in the first or second week of July month. The Divisional Forest Officer R P Roy today confirmed that two birds have been sighted in the Shikarwadi area of Sailana and this has indicated that in coming days more birds will be reaching in Sailana’s Shikarwadi, Amba and Sherpur.

Every year Kharmor bird reaches from some southern part covering very long distance and pass its almost three months period in Sailana area. The bird is not only rare but beautiful and  is very shy delicate. It is visible during morning hours and evening hours and can not face the sunrays and thus hides itself in the grass or field of “Urad”. The guest bird arrives only when there is atleast 8 to 10 inch of rains as it requires grass to hide itself.

Famous birdman of India Dr Salim Ali visited about three decades back in the Sailana area and he identified rare bird in Sailana area  and thereafter bird lovers every year  not only wait the arrival of the Kharmor but always avail opportunity  have a glimpse of it. The male and female Kharmor birds arrive together and the female bird gives birth to the new bird  and in October month they return with more birds with them.

The forest department has announced prize for giving information about the eggs of Kharmor and for their protection. Earlier there had been challenge before the department that the antisocial were killing this bird and safety had become very important. Thereafter certain measures were taken and protection of the bird was given priority.

Sanctuary existed in Shikarwadi area where the grass is grown and particular land was also earmarked for the stay of the rare bird. The area of sanctuary reduced with the lapse of time which has also become cause of concern for the bird lovers. One can not sight the rare bird from the vicinity but with the help of ‘Durbin’ only for which arrangements are said to have been made by the forest department in Sailana. Few years ago during rainy season a tourist bus was started for providing opportunity to the people to have sight of rare bird and also visiting some other places of the district  but this experiment did not succeed.

The commencement of the arrival of the rare bird is eagerly awaited every year and this year too bird lovers were keeping watch over the information about the reaching of the first such pair of birds in Sailana area and ultimately the forest department today confirmed that two such birds have been sighted in Shikarwadi area. Sherpur and Amba are two other places in Sailana where the rare birds stay for three months but highest numbers of birds stay in Shikarwadi area. People here said that forest department should make some specific arrangements for the sighting of the rare bird and people who reach Sailana for this purpose should not face any difficulty in sighting the bird . A proper guidance system should be developed at the Sailana’s forest office from where forest department employee should accompany the bird lovers to help them sighting the rare bird. People are said that there is need of keeping very close watch on the activities of the anti social elements for the protection of the guest bird .

Those who inform about the eggs and helps in saving them should be encouraged not only by giving them prizes but they should be given due encouragement by felicitating them. This year rains started late hence the bird will be reaching by August third week also. If rains take place better then the number of the arrival of the guest birds will increase in coming days. At present, the bird lovers are happy that the rare bird Kharmor has started arrival and has been sighted in the Sailana area.
