Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A stray dog was allegedly beaten to death by a security guard in Gwalior on Monday. The incident came to light after a CCTV footage surfaced on Wednesday.
The police have registered a case following a complaint lodged by pet lovers of the town and detained the accused.
According to sources, the accused identified as Sanjay Verma was posted at a posh colony in Harishankarpuram. He was reportedly upset over constant barking of a stray dog.
On Monday, he beat the dog with a stick. When dog died, he dumped the body in bushes. The entire incident was recorded in a CCTV camera installed at a house of a resident.
The incident came to light on Wednesday when the resident saw it in CCTV footage. Soon, CCTV footage went viral on social media. Later, a group of pet lovers reached Jhansi Road police station and lodged a complaint.
When the accused was detained and taken to police station, he was beaten up by dog lovers.
Jhansi Road police station incharge Mirza Ashif Baig said post-mortem of the dog’s body has been conducted and report is awaited. “The complainant has submitted a CCTV footage,” he said.
