Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Congress leaders on Wednesday raised doubts over Madhya Pradesh’s record breaking vaccination drive on June 21, which was the first day of Vaccination Mahaabhiyan in the state. In all, 16.93 lakh people were vaccinated on the inaugural day, which was Monday.

The Congress leaders shared three days’ data of vaccination drive in state and accused BJP-led government of “engineering” a record.

Former union minister and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh tweeted three days of vaccination data in Madhya Pradesh. “Madhya Pradesh vaccination trend last 3 days: 20th June- 692, 21st June-16.93 lakh and 22nd June - 4842. Who are we trying to fool?” tweeted Jairam Ramesh.

Retweeting it, former chief minister and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh wrote, “Simple, we are fooling ourselves!”

Former chief minister and Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Kamal Nath said that there were irregularities in vaccination drive in Madhya Pradesh.

“17 lakh people are vaccinated in a single day and pre and post of that particular day, very few hundred people are vaccinated. The government must clear its stand as it is a matter of lives of crores of citizens of the state,” Nath tweeted.

Condemning them, state medical education minister Vishvas Sarang said Congress leaders are circulating fake data. “We have started a mega vaccination campaign on June 21. There is an obvious reason that the figure would be high on that particular day. They are claiming that only 4,000 vaccination doses were administered on Tuesday. This figure is of vaccination done at private hospitals and at a few centres of government. They must visit the department and find out actual figures before circulating fake data. They should also obtain information about vaccination programme,” Sarang told Free Press.

When contacted, state vaccination officer Dr Santosh Shukla said anti-corona vaccination was not carried out on Tuesday and Friday. “There is clear instruction from the government that on Tuesdays and on Fridays, pregnant women and children will only be vaccinated,” he remarked.

He further said, “Figure of Covid-19 vaccination of Tuesday, you are talking about, is of those centres, which were opened on Tuesday. We have sought an explanation from Covid-19 vaccination centres’ incharges as to why they breached the government order.”

On Wednesday, 4.72 lakh were vaccinated till filing this report.
