Gang of hi-tech vehicle-lifters busted; 10 cars, gadgets worth Rs 1cr seized

BHOPAL : The Koh-E-Fiza police, on Saturday, busted a gang of inter-state vehicle lifters on Friday, who were inspired by Hollywood movies like ‘Gone in Sixty Seconds’ and ‘Fast and Furious’ and used to commit incidents in the similar way.

Police nabbed five members of the gang while one of the gang members was still on the run. The accused have confessed to their involvement in 11 crimes including three loots in Bhopal, Narsinghgarh in Rajgarh and Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. Police have recovered from their possession 12 vehicles including ten four wheelers and two two-wheelers along with a laptop, one iPhone, a country-made gun and a dagger. The total worth of seized goods was said to be more than Rs 1 crore.

SSP Raman Singh Sikarwar said that the kingpin of the gang was a computer wizard and would easily disable the GPS system of the vehicle using his laptop.

The gang members focused on stealing the car models older than the year 2010 as their lock system could be easily compromised. For stealing the vehicles of model 2012 and later they started committing loot.

One of the members of the gang was a taxi driver earlier so he knew how the taxies were booked online bookings. They used to use Justdial to look for taxi services and booked a specific cab of specific model portraying themselves as corporate clients on phone. They used to take the cab and on the midway they used to loot the vehicle taking the driver on gunpoint.

The accused were identified as kingpin Shahrukh Khan, 25, son of Noor Mohammed, resident of Gandhi Nagar.

He ran a Pan Shop near the Gandhi Nagar Bus Stop but was a computer buff according to police, Shiraj alias Ahmed Ali, 20, son of Musharraf, resident of Gandhi Nagar, he was a taxi driver in MyCab, Faraz Pathan alias Bhaiya, 20, son of Rashid, resident of Raisen, Jackson Samuel alias Chitta, 28, son of C Samuel, resident of Gandhi Nagar. While Ubed Ahmed, 30, son of Nisar, resident of Beldarpura and Babar alias Mamu Irani, son of Ashiq Ali, 50, resident of Sanjay Nagar, used to sell the stolen vehicles.

The accused had hired a cab from Indore on August 25 through call centre and had had abducted the driver along with car.

Later the accused had left the driver tied to a tree in Sehatganj forest area in Raisen in which a case was later filed at Koh-E-Fiza police station. Subsequently police nabbed Shahrukh on the tip off of an informer and recovered a stolen Activa from him. During further quizzing he confessed to having looted the cab.
