Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh): Chhindwara District Administration has filed an FIR against six farmers for allegedly engaging in an incident of stubble burning. All the farmers are reportedly from Shikarpur village.

The district administration has taken strict action against farmers burning stubble for environmental protection and air pollution control in Chhindwara. The action was taken under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in Kotwali police station.

The farmers who have been booked include, Lekhram Mahore, Hariprasad Mahore, Birbal Mahore, Shri Ganesh Mahore, Naresh Mahore and Rambharos Mahore. The district administration initiated this legal action after conducting a detailed investigation.

Collector urged to use alternative methods

District Collector highlighted the importance of environmental friendly practices and urged farmers to use alternatives method such as bio-decomposers or crop residue management techniques.

Surge in Stubble Farming cases

The state has recorded a significant number of stubble burning incidents. In March 2025, The state recorded 17,534 stubble incidents, Indore alone witnessed 1240 incidents. As a result 717 farmers were fined a total of ₹16.7 lakh last month.

The administration has warned that strict action will continue against those violating the rules. The Collector himself is monitoring these cases. This action is part of the environmental protection initiative of the Madhya Pradesh government and the district administration.
