Brief spell of torrential rain lashes Bhopal

BHOPAL : A brief spell of torrential rain lashed the state capital on Monday evening. It was much awaited for standing Rabi crops as Madhya Pradesh remained deprived off much chill this season so it was the last hope for rain for Rabi Crops for its perfect maturation. Jabalpur and Sagar recorded 1cm rainfall respectively in the last 24 hours.

However, day temperature nominally increased while night temperature slightly decreased. Bhopal recorded a maximum temperature of 24.3°C which was 1°C below normal while it recorded a minimum temperature of 13.4°C which was 3°C above normal. According to Meteorological department, rain can be attributed to Upper Air Circular which lies over South Madhya Pradesh and adjoining area persisting and the wind confluence which is taking places over Central parts. Rain and thundershower with chance of hailstorm to may occur at a few places over Sagar, Jabalpur, Shahdol, Rewa divisions and Ratlam, Rajgarh, Agar and north of Bhopal districts at isolated places over rest of state except Chambal division, Gwalior, Datia, districts.

Cold Day and cold wave are expected at isolated places over Morena, Bhind, Gwalior, Datia districts during next 24 hours. Fog is likely to occur at isolated places over Morena, Bhind, Gwalior, Datia, Shivpuri, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna districts.

Agriculture director Mohanlal Mina said, “Such rain is useful for Rabi crops for their maturation and quality of grain. However, chill is also equally necessary but as the state remained deprived off it in this current season this spell of rain will help a lot.”
