BHOPAL: People keep complaining about the filthy conditions of their area, poor roads, parks, etc. Very few of them decide to change what we don’t like. The residents of Sonagiri Sector A took the responsibility of changing the state of their park and beautify it on their own. They collected Rs 100 from other residents of their society to develop their park and have also included children in their drive. They made the children plant a tree and named it after them. The children now take care of the plant themselves and water it regularly. “The children are attached to the plants they have planted and they take good care of it. They water them regularly, protect them from animals and also keep comparing whose plant has grown bigger. The satisfaction we get after doing the work is the most important. For us the park is no more the responsibility of the municipal corporation or of the corporator. It is ours and it is now our responsibility to keep it evergreen”, said Leela Seokar, resident, while sharing her experience.

Shobhna Joy, Resident

The idea came from a friend from Kalpana Nagar and she inspired me so much that I started talking to people of my colony about cleaning the society ourselves and regaining the beauty of the park. Depending on authority and BMC would not lead us anywhere, we knew. We take Rs 100 from the residents for the work and maintenance of the park. We have started the repair of the park as of now. Though not everyone of the society comes for the manual work but the support us, in whatever way they can”

Vishal Joshi, Resident

“Shobhna ji, inspired me so much. She was so enthusiastic and encouraging. Though we are hardly 5-6 people who do the manual work but moral support from the other residents is very encouraging. We have started working on the boundary wall of the park and have also planted trees. We also make sure that the plants are watered. We often don’t bother to take initiative and rely completely on the authorities. When we started the work even the authorities supported us, they also help us now in developing the park.”
