BHOPAL: “Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is running the government of Madhya Pradesh just as Narendra Modi ran the government of Gujarat,” said spiritual leader Morari Bapu at Jait in Sehore district. He had reached the CM’s birthplace to join the Narmada Yatra.
The yatra reached Jait on the 100th day. Morari Bapu said he was not the admirer of any political party but could not help appreciate the ‘sentiment’ of the CM behind organising the Narmada Yatra. He asked people to take a pledge to serve Narmada. “And this is not an election meeting. Please keep your pledge,” he said.
Morari Bapu said unless urgent steps were taken to preserve Narmada, the condition of the river would worsen. Speaking on the occasion, Chouhan said after Narmada, a campaign to cleanse other rivers would also be launched. He said the state government had also launched campaigns for saving the girl child and for weaning people away from liquor.
He said the state would be made addiction-free in phases, adding already the sale of liquor had been banned in 5-km radius of the river. He urged women to form an organisation like ‘Gulabi Gang’ to banish liquor from the state. On this occasion, he also announced the setting up of Narmada Kosh. Morari Bapu announced his initial contribution of Rs 11,000 to the fund. Among others, ministers Rampal Singh and Narottam Mishra, and Sant Kamal Kishore Nagar were present at the function.
