Bhopal: The Supreme Court on Tuesday cancelled admission process for MBBS and BDS courses in the state. The court asked state government to prepare merit list afresh and complete the admission process in government and private medical colleges within 10 days. Principal secretary Gouri Singh said that fresh schedule would be announced on Wednesday.

Government advocate Sourabh Mishra said that the SC rejected state’s petition and gave 10 days to complete the admission process. The government had challenged high court’s August 24 decision that only state domiciles be given admission in government medical colleges. Respondent advocate Aditya Sanghi said that the two-judge bench of Justice Arvind Bobde and Justice Nageshwar Rao declared the petition filed in Jabalpur High Court as valid and ruled out any change in the verdict.

Petitioner Vinayak Parihar had moved Jabalpur HC claiming that DME was granting admission to non-domiciles in medical colleges. The petitioner had prayed for remedy. In 2016, the SC had laid down norms for state domicile and non-domicile.

It had also cleared the state admission policy. Advocate Sanghi said 200 students were granted admission in government and 400 in private medical colleges of the state in first two rounds of admission and counselling.

During hearing, advocate Sanghi argued that private medical colleges too should adhere to admission norms of the state. Accepting the argument, the court instructed DME to cancel all admission and enforce the same criteria in private medical colleges too.

Candidates are required to mention their domicile status at the time of filling the form for NEET. After the examination, NEET forwards the lists to the state.

In MP, the DME prepared its own guidelines regarding admissions against15% national and 85% state quota. The DME allowed the students to make a self-declaration regarding their domicile. Talking advantage of that, students from other states falsely declared themselves as domiciles of MP and managed to get admissions under state quota.
