Bharatiya Janaty Party has decided to field its candidate from Bhopal against ex-Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh. The party has pitted Sadhvi Pragya Thakur against Singh, although a formal announcement on her name is yet to be made.  Pragya’s name came into light after she was made accused in Malegaon blast case. She was also made an accused in Sunil Joshi murder case. Pragya has been absolved in both these cases. Singh had raised both the cases at the national level and had made allegation of ‘RSS terror’.

It is reported that the decision to field Pragya from Bhopal was taken by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Despite opposition of local leaders in the state capital, decision on Pragya has been taken at the central level.  Meanwhile, Pragya said she is fully prepared to contest against Singh in the election if BJP gives her ticket. She said the election is between ‘Dharma’ and ‘Adharma’.

According to Pragya, nobody would support Digvijaya for calling saffron colour a symbol of terrorism. There is opposition at local level on Pragya but the top leaders in the party maintain that damage control would be done. On the other hand, the party is mulling over fielding ex- Apex Bank chairman Ramakant Bhargava from Vidisha seat, KP Yadav from Guna, Rajendra Singh and Bhupendra Singh from Sagar. While Ramesh Mendola and Shankar Lalwani may be considered for Indore seat.

Cong fields Pankaj Sanghvi from Indore
The Congress on Tuesday announced Pankaj Sanghvi as party candidate from Indore Lok Sabha constituency. BJP has still to declare its candidate for the seat, currently represented by 8-time MP and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. In 1998 general election Sanghvi had contested against Mahajan and lost the election by margin of 50,000 votes. With this, the party announced all 29 candidates from Madhya Pradesh for the ensuing polls.
