Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bajaria police have arrested two persons, including a post office staffer who withdrew Rs 16 lakh from the pension account of the widow of a freedom fighter using a stolen cheque. The postal employee had stolen the cheque and handed it over to his accomplice, police said.

According to reports, Shankarlal Pawar, a resident of Chandbadh had approached Bajaria police station on November 28 complaining that the amount had been fraudulently withdrawn from his grandmother’s post office account. He informed police that his grandfather late Umrao Singh was a freedom fighter and that his grandmother Ganga Bai receives freedom fighter pension in her savings account at Chandbadh post office.

Police sought information regarding the transaction from head post office at TT Nagar following which an FIR was registered against Ajay Kumar Jain under the relevant sections of BNS. Inspector Jitendra Singh Gurjar said that a police team with the help of cyber experts traced the location of Ajay Kumar Jain and arrested him.

During questioning, Ajay informed the police team that his friend Vikas Sahu works at Chandbadh post office. Sahu stole a cheque when Ganga Bai had gone to deposit withdrawal at the post office sometime back. Vikas gave the cheque to Ajay who forged signatures of Ganga Bai to withdraw cash Rs 16 lakh from her account. The duo divided the cash among themselves.
