Bhopal Metro Project: Government spends Rs 27 crore but clueless about launch date

BHOPAL: A whopping Rs 27 crore has been spent on Metro rail project in Bhopal and Indore but the government is still not in position when the project will be launched.

Urban administration minister Maya Singh, replying to a question of former chief minister Babulal Gaur, said implementation agency for Metro will be selected after the approval of the Central government. She said Metro project is proposed to be implemented by 2021-2022 but it is not possible to say exactly by when it would be launched.

Singh said a sum of Rs 15,000 crore has to be spent on the Metro project in Bhopal and Indore, of which, around Rs 25 crore has been spent on detailed project report (DPR) and pre-feasibility report, Rs 29 lakh on constitution of Metro company, Rs 18 lakh as administrative expenses, Rs 29 lakh as honorarium while around Rs 1 crore has been spent as fees and taxes.

Singh also told that it was proposed to take loan from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Subsequently, their team surveyed Bhopal and Indore but the loan was yet to be sanctioned. Singh said Metro Company, headed by chief minister, has been constituted.
