Bhopal: The state government is contemplating on a proposal to block allowance to the legislators who disrupt proceedings of the House. The department of legislative affairs has sent a proposal in this regard to Chief Minister Kamal Nath. Soon, a bill would be tabled in the House to block allowance to the MLAs disrupting proceedings.
Congress in its ‘Vachan Patra’ had stated that the MLAs who disrupt House proceedings would not be given any allowance. For the compliance of ‘Vachan Patra’, a bill would be brought in the House to amend the Act related to salaries and allowances of MLAs. An MLA currently gets a daily allowance of Rs 1500 during Assembly session.
The decision of government is said to build pressure on MLAs, especially those from Opposition, who create commotion in the House. The opposition in the present state Assembly is quite powerful. The ruling party has 114 MLAs while the BJP has 109 MLAs.
During the BJP government, an amendment in the Act related to salaries and allowances of the MLAs was made and it was provisioned that MLAs would be paid daily allowance subject to his presence in the House. The provision for not giving allowance to MLAs for disrupting House proceedings has come up for the first time.
Meanwhile, the BJP MLAs said the move was meant to silence the Opposition.”We would not tolerate the government taking any anti-people decisions and MLAs keeping mum fearing payment of their allowance.” MLA Rameshwar Sharma said the Congress would never be able to silent the voice of MLAs.
