BHOPAL: There should be proper guidelines and also accountability should be established for the deaths which are caused due to drowning. This was discussed in the national conference on safety from drowning at Hotel Palash on Sunday.
Organised jointly by Rotary Club, Bhopal Management Association, BSNL and Mandar and No More mission under the campaign ‘Mandar and NO More’, discussion was held on various steps which should be taken to reduce the number of deaths from drowning. Higher Education consultant to Governor, Rajpal Singh was the chief guest of the conference along with various guests and specialists from all over the world. Mrs India Classic Earth Jaya Mahesh and educationist from California Jenis Austin also participated in the conference.
Rajpal Singh said that the support gained by the campaign from people all over the nation will help in reducing such cases further. Chairman Rahul Kothari said, “The points of discussion will be taken to higher authorities, so that concrete steps could be taken to stop the number of deaths from increasing further.
Child Safety specialist Vibhanshu Joshi said that drowning should be included in Disaster Risk Reduction program. Senior Law expert Shrinivas Joshi said that National and State Pollution Control Boards have the power to create safe zones around water bodies which are dangerous. “The Supreme Court in 2010 issued boring safety guidelines which can be used to create safety rules to avoid such disasters”, he said.
