Bhopal: Cops deny laxity in PSO’s death, say only accused are frisked

Bhopal: A personal security officer (PSO) of Union minister Uma Bharati, shooting himself with his service revolver inside a Dial 100 vehicle has left the city shocked. While people have blamed Dial 100 team for its failure to frisk the officer before taking him and his wife to nearby police station, the police have maintained that the officer, identified as Ram Mohan Danoriya, was neither an accused nor was being arrested.

The Dial 100 team had decided to ferry the Danoriya couple to Kamla Nagar police station after wife insisted on filing a complaint of marital harassment against him. SP Dial-100 Amit Saxena said that Danoriya was not a criminal hence he was not frisked. While the staff belonged to local police station, the driver and the vehicle was of Dial 100, said Saxena. He denied any role of Dial 100 team in the incident.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Zone 1, Sanjay Sahu, said that a person is frisked only when he is being taken into custody. “We do not frisk someone on the spot,” he said. Meanwhile, Superintendent of police (SP), headquarters, Dharamveer Singh has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident. As the incident occurred inside the police vehicle a magisterial probe has been ordered, said Singh, adding that the probe report will throw further light on the incident.

Earlier, Ram Mohan Danoriya, a company commander-rank officer of Madhya Pradesh police’s Special Armed Force, allegedly shot himself with his service revolver inside Dial-100 van late on Wednesday night. He was assigned as PSO to Union minister Uma Bharati

The PSO along with his wife was heading to police station on Dial 100 van when the incident occurred. The woman had called up emergency response service to complaint against Danoriya following an altercation between them. The cop was allegedly drunk when he was escorted into the emergency response service vehicle.

Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Zone 1 Sanjay Sahu said that Danoriya’s wife called up Dial-100 complaining that her inebriated husband was beating her. When the Dial 100 team reached the spot, the woman insisted on filing a complaint against Danoriya.

The couple accompanied the police party to Kamla Nagar police station on Dial 100 van to file a complaint. The police team sat on the front, woman seated herself on the middle seat, while Danoriya positioned self on the back seat. On the way, Danoriya took out his revolver and shot himself in the head, Sahu said. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he was declared brought dead, the officer added.
