BHOPAL: Bhopal residents must heave a sigh of relief as Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration has assured for daily pipe water supply in the state capital in summer despite all odds. BMC has sufficient water for three months. Quantity may be reduced a little bit but it will be daily supply.
As per the BMC, 38 Million Gallon per Day (MGD) will be pumped through Kolar water supply and 25 MGD will be availed from Upper Lake. Besides, newly constructed over head tanks are being linked with Kolar water supply to meet the requirement in the city.
Earlier BMC administration had plan for alternate day supply but now it has changed the stand for regular water supply as there is water stock for three months. Water level is receding in Upper Lake but administration will meet the requirement from Kolar water supply.
Rajesh Nigam, who looks after upper lake water supply, said, “It is true that water level is receding in Upper Lake but as far as water supply is concerned, our entire team is working for regular supply of water in the city. We will be able to maintain the water supply despite all odds. Leakages will be timely plugged to check the pilferage and wastage of water.” City Engineer (water supply) AR Pawar said, “We are in position to make regular water supply in summer as we have stock for the summer.
However, there are chances that volume of water supplied may be reduced but we will ensure that people will get daily water supply. Water level in Upper Lake is receding gradually but we will make up it from Kolar water supply with linking over head water tanks with Kolar water supply.”
