Bhopal: Nearly 90,000 lawyers observed strike and took out a march till Raj Bhavan to support the nationwide call for strike given by Bar Council of India on Tuesday. The strike was observed to press for the demands including implementation of advocates protection act among others. The demands includes and budgetary allocations for the welfare of advocates, chambers for advocates, e-library, family insurance, and stipend.
Lawyers after reaching the Governor house handed over a memorandum addressed to Governor- to official at Raj Bhavan. Governor was not available so officials received the memorandum. Delegations of five lawyers led by District Bar Association Rajesh Vyas, general secretary PC Kothari, Advocate Ajay Gupta had gone to hand over memorandum.
As per the Bar Council executive body, strike is for right of advocates in Madhya Pradesh in support of the nationwide strike on call of National Bar Council on the said issues. According to advocates, Congress had promised in its Vachan-Patra a protection act will be brought in Madhya Pradesh, financial help upto Rs25,000, death claim up to Rs 5 lakh, financial help up to Rs5 lakh in case of serious sickness, and e-library facilities will be provided to the advocates. The Bar Council of India (BCI) called for the strike in association with the state bar councils and representatives of the various high court bar association. Lawyers took out rallies on the premises of courts and near governor house.
