US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has stepped down from her position in President Donald Trump's administration, citing her husband's diagnosis with an "extremely rare form of bone cancer" as the reason for her decision.

She informed President Trump of her decision during a meeting in the Oval Office on Friday. Her final day as Director of National Intelligence will be June 30.
In her resignation letter, Gabbard expressed gratitude to President Trump for the confidence he placed in her and for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence over the past 18 months.
Explaining her decision, she said her husband, Abraham, was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer and is expected to face significant challenges in the months ahead, prompting her to step away from public service to support him during this difficult period.

"I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming position," she wrote, underscoring the deeply personal nature of her decision.
Gabbard also pledged to ensure a smooth transition before her departure, saying she would work closely with the administration in the coming weeks to avoid any disruption to leadership or ongoing initiatives.
