A Bengaluru man went Idli hopping and recorded his food trail on camera. His experience showed how the dish was priced differently across canteens and hotels in the city. While he first enjoyed a plate of single Idli for only Rs. 5, the video also recorded him trying the much-loved dish for a staggering price of Rs. 5,000.
Would you pay thousands of rupees for a plate of Idli Sambar? Well, that's not the real question here. This foodie, Cassy Pereira, went from place to place to try Idlis and rate them. The video showed him trying out the dish at four different eateries, ranging from Rs. 5 to Rs. 5000.
To begin with, Cassy went to a roadside stall. He checked for the price of one Idli and was happy to learn that it was quite affordable. He only paid Rs. 5 to enjoy the steamed delicacy there. It was served to him with two types of chutneys.

Here's how much he rated Rs. 5 Idli
The video showed him taking a bite of the Idli with his hands and sharing feedback about it. He rated the Idli he tried at the street side stall nearly 10/10. While we aren't sure what made him eat score points, he rated it 9.7.
Next, he visited a very popular food outlet in Bengaluru. Did you guess it already? You are right if you said it to be no other than "The Rameshwaram Cafe". Here, he shelled Rs. 50 from his pockets for a plate of Idlis. , in which he received two Idlis along with two chutneys and a bowl of Sambar.
While you find all of these worth it, what happened next shocked netizens.
The video soon captured Cassy visiting some top hotels for his love for Idlis. At one place he nearly paid Rs. 500 for the food item and at another, he was billed for Rs. 5,000.
At Taj Hotels, where he entered with a blue suit to dine, he paid in hundreds but only the dish a 4.2 rating.

Last, he was delighted by the ambience of the restaurant which offered him steamed Idlis for Rs. 5000 and coated it with a layer of 23 Carat edible gold. Yes, you read that right. He compared the place to a "palace" while expressing his "wow" feeling. While he was impressed with the exteriors of the undisclosed dining spot, the food didn't win his heart.

As the video surfaced online, netizens were shocked to know that restaurants served Idlis for an amount as high as Rs. 5,000. They found the rate unreasonable and extremely too much. "Selling Idli for 5000rs is an absolute crime even if it's a seven-star hotel", they wrote.
"Taste of idli is inversely proportional to the cost", Instagram users commented on the food reel.
