Iyer's last international outing was during the five-match Test series against England in February 2024. Since then, he wasn't featured in the Indian team but has made a remarkable impact in domestic cricket, paving the way for his potential comeback.
In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, Iyer has been in scintillating form, amassing 312 runs in just four matches for Mumbai. His standout performances include a commanding 137-run knock against Puducherry, which propelled Mumbai to a massive 163-run victory after bundling their opponents for 127.
Another remarkable innings came against Karnataka, where Iyer smashed a 50-ball century, finishing with 114 runs and rescuing Mumbai from a precarious 82/5 situation.
