Australia defeated India by six wickets in Sydney to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a decade. However, Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has expressed disappointment at not being invited to the trophy presentation ceremony.

The series is named after great Sunil Gavaskar and Allan Border, while at the presentation ceremony only Border was present to hand over the trophy to Australian captain Pat Cummins.

Gavaskar voiced his feelings, saying, "I would have loved to be there for the presentation. It's the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, representing both Australia and India. Just because I’m Indian shouldn’t matter. Australia played better and deserved the win. I would have been happy to present the trophy with my good friend Allan Border."

He added that the organizers had informed him before the series that he would only be required if India won or drew the series."I was told just before the Test started that was going to be the situation.

If India didn't win or draw the series I wouldn't be required...I'm not feeling sad, but I'm just feeling a little perplexed. It's the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, both of us should have been there.”

Australia won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy After a decade
The match ended on Day 3 after India, starting their innings at 157, set a modest target of 162. Australia’s Scott Boland was the star bowler, taking six wickets, while skipper Pat Cummins grabbed three.

In their chase, Australia began confidently, with Usman Khawaja contributing 41 runs. Although Prasidh Krishna dismissed Sam Konstas early and later claimed two more wickets, including Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith cheaply, the target proved too small to defend. Travis Head (34*) and Beau Webster (39*) guided Australia to victory.

India’s bowling efforts were led by Krishna, who took three wickets, and Mohammed Siraj, who claimed his 100th Test wicket by dismissing Usman Khawaja. Despite their efforts, Australia secured the win and qualified for the World Test Championship final alongside South Africa.
