Mumbai : It seems the youngsters in the city’s sporting fraternity are out there prove a point or two. The day before Pranav Dhanawade of Kalyan’s KC Gandhi School amassed a world record-breaking, unbeaten 1009 on a cricket field, another from city, Aman Chokshi of Aditya Birla World Academy made Mumbai proud by winning the prestigious junior chess championships in Basel, Switzerland.

The eighth standard student scored four out of possible five points to emerge victorious in the junior category of the Annual Basel Chess Championship that concluded on Monday. The tournament was conducted in three different categories — Masters, Amateur and Students. A total of 133 players across the globe were vying for the top honours throughout the last week.

The first ever achievement of this magnitude has naturally put Aman over the moon. Being a seasoned campaigner in the state circles with an international Elo rating of 1395 and being trained at the South Mumbai Chess Academy at Walkeshwar, Aman promises to deliver more. “This win has boosted my confidence and I expect to win many more such titles in the near future,” an ecstatic Aman said.
