Sydney Thunder players Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft have been discharged from the hospital on Saturday afternoon following injuries sustained during a Big Bash League (BBL) match against the Perth Scorchers yesterday. The two collided while attempting a catch, leading to a temporary halt in the game.
In an official statement, Sydney Thunder confirmed the extent of the injuries as Cameron Bancroft sustained a concussion, a fractured nose, and a fractured right scapula. Daniel Sams suffered a concussion and will follow Cricket Australia’s return-to-play protocols.
“Both players were discharged from the hospital on Saturday afternoon, and the team assured fans of their ongoing care.”
Sydney Thunder expressed gratitude to all medical staff involved, "We thank the medical and other staff on hand following the accident, including those from the Scorchers, Cricket Australia, and our own staff. Cameron and Daniel have received the best care possible, and we will support them and their families as they recover."
Despite the incident, Sydney Thunder emerged victorious in a nail-biting finish. Batting first, the Scorchers posted an impressive total of 177-4. Finn Allen stole the spotlight with a blistering knock of 68 off 31 balls, marking his second half-century of the season. Cooper Connolly contributed an unbeaten 43 runs, while Chris Green was the standout bowler for the Thunder, claiming 3 wickets.
Chasing 178, the Thunder had a shaky start, losing their first wicket for just three runs. Skipper David Warner anchored the innings with a solid performance, narrowly missing his half-century. Matthew Gilkes provided valuable support with 43 runs.
