Beed: A 29-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulting his 10-year-old minor relative in Kaij taluka of Beed district. The accused has been booked under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The accused has been identified as Amar Rajabhau Bhungurde, a resident of Itkur village in Kalamb tehsil of Dharashiv district. He was arrested late on Tuesday night.
Victim Informed Her Parents…
According to police, the case came to light after the victim informed her parents about the alleged abuse. The girl’s mother later lodged a complaint with the police.
Officials said the accused had come to his maternal uncle’s house as a guest on May 4. On Monday night, while the girl’s parents had gone to the fields for agricultural work, the accused allegedly took advantage of the situation and sexually assaulted the child at her residence.
Police Find Horrific Details…
During the investigation, police found that the alleged abuse was not a single incident. According to the FIR, the accused had allegedly been sexually harassing and assaulting the minor repeatedly since March 13, 2026, during his frequent visits to the village over the past several months.
After hearing the child’s statement, police registered a case on Tuesday night under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act.
Machhindranath Shendge said police immediately began efforts to trace the accused after the FIR was registered.
Police Custody Granted…
“A police team tracked the accused to his native village and arrested him on Tuesday night,” the officer said.
The operation was carried out by a team led by PSI Bharat Barde, along with constables Mahesh Kokate and Sohail Pathan.
The minor victim was taken to Swami Ramanand Teerth Rural Government Medical College and Hospital in Ambajogai for medical examination. Police head constable Baby Gandhale confirmed that the medical reports have been submitted to the investigating officer.
The accused was produced before the Kaij court on Wednesday. The court remanded him to police custody for further investigation.
