On Friday, Shiv Sena activists allegedly attacked a retired Navy Officer for sharing a post about Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray. The incident took place in Kandivali in Mumbai and CCTV footage shows several individuals chasing down one person.
Following the incident, many have taken to Twitter to criticise the party and the Maharahstra government. As many pointed out, this is not an isolated incident. Recently, the Shiv Sena-led government has come under fire on multiple occasions for their handling of criticism. There has been several FIRs.
In July, an offence of obscenity and defamation being registered against an individual named Sameet Thakkar for allegedly derogatory tweets against ministers of the state government on Twitter. According to the V P Road Police, on July 1, Thakkar shared a photo on Twitter, allegedly referring to Aaditya as 'Mohammad Azam Shaha of Maharashtra aka baby penguin' and to the CM as a 'modern day Aurangazeb'. As per the complaint, Thakkar also tweeted against Sanjay Raut as well.
More recently came the clash with actor Kangana Ranaut, which saw Sanjay Raut refer to her as a "h*******r ladki" even as the actor compared Mumbai to Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Then came the demolition of part of Ranaut's Bandra office which was followed by the actor taking to social media with a video criticising Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
This in turn led to counter-criticism for Ranaut's reference to the CM as "tu". In the meantime, reports suggest that a Wadala man was thrashed and his head shaved over a derogatory Facebook comment that maligned the Chief Minister.
