Thane: Two policemen injured in mob attack in Kalyan

Thane: Two policemen, including an officer, were injured when they were attacked by an irate mob at Kalyan here, police said on Thursday. The duo was part of a team from the Bandra police station which had gone to Kalyan to arrest a man in a robbery case, they said.

The attack, in which a sub-inspector and a constable were injured, took place on Wednesday night, the police said. A 20-member strong mob, which included women, attacked the police team with bottles and stones when they went to arrest the accused, Abbas Amzad Irani, in Ambivili, they said.

The police team had in fact nabbed Irani, but the mob freed him during the attack, they said. An offence under relevant of the IPC has been registered with the Khadakpada police station in connection with the incident, the police added.
