Thane: Three persons drown at two different locations on Sunday

Thane: Three people of Thane who went to two different places for swimming, drowned on Sunday. While, two of the youngsters drowned at Nilapani lake in Yeoor, the third one drowned at a big hole of rain water at Lokmanya nagar in Thane.

According to the Regional Disaster management cell (RDMC), in the first incident the boy identified as Prasad Madhukar Pavaskar (16), a resident of police line building, near central ground, court naka, Thane died while swimming at Nilapani lake. "On Sunday morning at 7am, Pavaskar along with his six friends left home to reach Nilapani lake in Yeoor Patonapada. All the youngsters went there to swim in the lake. According to his friends, it was at 8:30am when Pavaskar jumped into the lake to swim. But incidentally he was hit on a stone in the lake and suffered injuries. He was rescued by his friends, but he fainted and again fell down into the lake. He got stuck in-between two stones and was dead. The rescue operation was completed and the body was recovered at 11:15am. The dead body was handed over to the police who further took him to Chatrapati Shivaji hospital in Kalwa", said an official from RDMC.

Similarly the second incident too happened at the same spot in the afternoon. According to the RDMC officials, Zuber Sayed (20), a resident of Rabodi who came to swim at the same lake along with his five friends including Abdul Hasan, Umar Shaikh, Shahid Ansari, Irfan Chaudhari and Sufiyan Shaikh. "It was at 2:30pm, when Zuber Sayed and Abdul Hasan (26) took a jump into the water to swim. But the water was too deep so both of them drowned. While Abdul Hasan was rescued by his friends, Sayed drowned inside deep water", said an RDMC officer claiming the rescue operation was carried out by fire brigade officials, RDMC, TDRF (Thane Disaster Response Force) and local police.

Santosh Kadam, head of RDMC said the Zuber Sayed was rescued at 6:37pm in the evening. "In both the cases the TDRF team members used cameras to search for the dead body. As it was deep in the water and was not traceable by the rescuers. While a team was operating the camera on a laptop, another team was diving in deep water as per instructions to search for the victim. The TDRF team is thankful to Dr Vipin Sharma, municipal commissioner, TMC who provided the camera, which really proved helpful to trace the two dead bodies today", added Kadam.

The third incident took place at 4pm near military ground, pada number 4, Lokmanya nagar in Thane. The deceased identified as Sutesh Arjun Karavade (33), was a resident of Lokmanya nagar in Thane. "Sutesh went swimming in a big pond full of rain water. He got stuck inside the muddy water and drowned. With the help of fire brigade officials and RDMC officials, his dead body was recovered at 6:28pm and sent to civil hospital", said an RDMC official.

The Vartak nagar police have registered an accidental death report in all the three cases. The police have later handed over the dead body to the parents of the respective youngsters.
