Mumbai : The Maharashtra School Secondary board is contemplating the inclusion of Short Message (SMS) and email writing in the syllabus for classes 9 and 10.
KB Patil, secretary of SSC board, said that it is the initiative of the board to include it in syllabus under a new draft. The school board’s in-house magazine Shikshan Sankraman published the idea and explained the new pattern.
Patil said that the pattern change is for all second-language subjects including Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and composite languages such as Sanskrit, for improving the language quality and development of students.
“Resource persons will soon conduct training sessions for teachers,” he said. Education minister Vinod Tawade was unaware about the move but welcomed the initiative when told about it. “If there is such a proposal, it is an innovative and modern one,” he said.
However, Ramesh Joshi, leader of teacher’s union, opposed it. He said the move does not assume importance when there is no 100% literacy in the state. “More that 4.5 crore kids are out of school. The government could not bring them to school. How will they write SMS and emails?” Joshi argued.
