Mumbai: Baba Ramdev sees in Yoga a panacea for all ills, convinced that those who practice the ancient discipline are blessed by God; more important, it enhances one’s competence to spot ‘achche’ din.

Geared up to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 in Nanded, he could not help having a dig at the Gandhis and ascribed Congress's drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls to party president Rahul Gandhi not practising yoga.

‘‘Is liye unke raj-yog mein bhi thoda sa gadbad ho gaya (hence political power eluded them)," the yoga guru explained. News portal of India Today had him on record: "Modi ji publicly yog karte hain.

Luke chupe Nehruji aur Indiraji yog karte the. Unke aane wale pidi ne yog nahi kiya isliye unki rajniti gadbad ho gayi. Yog karne walo ke acche din aate hai (Modi ji does yoga publicly.

[Jawaharlal] Nehru and Indira [Gandhi] used to do yoga on the sly. But their successor [Rahul} did not do yoga, which is why his politics went for a toss. Those who do yoga, see acche din)."

Neitzens immediately took the cue and fished out pictures of Jawaharlal Nehru doing the sirsasana (headstand), a very difficult yoga mudra. Speaking about the benefit of the posture, Nehru wrote in his autobiography, "The slightly comic position increased my good humour and made me a little more tolerant of life's vagaries.

Indira Gandhi was also conversant with yoga and went through the mudras regularly. Her yoga instructor was possibly her spiritual guru Dhirendra Brahmachari.

Initially, Ramdev was supposed to lead thousands of people in the International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21 on the banks of the Ganga at Har ki Pauri in Haridwar.

However, the event was later shifted to Nanded, reports India Today.com. Sources told the magazine the venue was shifted at the request of the BJP top brass that wanted the event to be held either in Maharashtra or Haryana, both of which are poll-bound states.
