Mumbai : Since a fortnight, the police officers are investigating and have still not come to a conclusion in the Powai-fire case wherein First Information Report (FIR) was registered by police against the Chandivali’s 22-storey Lake Lucerne Society on June 11.  Senior PI informed that the probe might take another fifteen days, after which they will take action.

Powai police station Senior Inspector Gawte informed that they have started their probe and are looking into various aspects such as which security measures were provided during the fire at the society.

He added after checking all the documents and once the investigation process is completed, they will take appropriate action depending upon the outcome of their investigation.

After a major-fire break out in the Powai high rise on June 6, Mumbai fire brigade had submitted its report to Powai police on June 11, which pointed at major discrepancies on the part of the society. During the investigation, the fire brigade officials had also checked upon the lapses on the part of the society which hindered their rescue operations. The fire claimed seven lives and injured 28 people.

According to the fire brigade’s report, the service ducts were not sealed, which resulted in the rapid spread of the fire. The absence of the sprinkler system, which could have been of great help in containing the fire, up to the 15th floor of the building too found mention in the report. Also, the staircase, refuge area, and the terrace which were locked, hampered the rescue operation.
