Palghar: Palghar residents were on tenterhooks as at least seven mild and severe tremors, measuring up to 4.1 on the Richter scale, shook the district on Friday. The first sharp quake was experienced around 7am, forcing people to flee homes and shops and students scampered out of schools and colleges. Twelve hundred students of the Dhulwadwadi Ashram gram panchayat school find themselves left in the lurch as the district administrator has ordered the school to be shut down, as it is submerged under water. In 2010, a borewell had to be dug in the school to get water; however, the move proved unsuccessful. But after the series of tremors experienced lately, the school where no water was found has now gone under water, necessitating its closure.
