Bhayandar: The Mira-Bhayandar Assembly segment of the Thane parliamentary constituency has seen more than one lakh new voters getting enrolled in the voters list compared to the 2014 state Assembly elecitons. Though the final figure is yet to be released, the number of electorates in this segment has gone up from 3,24,803 in 2014 to 4,28,328 till 12 April 2019, which is a rise of 1,03,525 voters. Apart from four transgender community members, the number of male and female voters currently stand at 2,28,886 and 1,99,438 respectively in this Assembly segment. Since the process is still on, the exact figure may see a marginal change, officials said.
However a significant number of new voters, especially those who opted for online registrations on the National Voters’ Services Portal, are still waiting for their voter identity cards. The Election Commission is setting up nearly 427 polling stations across this constituency. Electronic voting machines and paper trail or voter verifiable paper trail machines to be used in these polling stations will be set and sealed at the Assembly segment level on the 21 and 22 April, as elections in the Thane parliamentary constituency is scheduled to be held on 29 April. In the Thane parliamentary constituency, Shiv Sena’s sitting MP Rajan Vichare is locked in a straight battle with NCP’s Anand Paranjpe.
