Mumbai: A Mumbai Police team reached Kerala on Wednesday to trace Binoy Kodiyeri, the son of Communist Party of India (Marxist) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, booked for rape and cheating by Oshiwara police.
Police sources said when they tried to contact Binoy, his phone was switched off, which fuelled the suspicion he must have fled the country to avert arrest. A case of rape and cheating was filed against him on June 13.
Mumbai Police will be seeking the help of their counterparts in Kerala during the probes. “Fearing that Binoy might escape the country to avert arrest, a team was sent to track him.
We first want to record his statement, which will ascertain the course of further investigation,” said a senior inspector. Meanwhile, police also asked Binoy to appear before them by Friday.
Police said the complainant, a native of Bihar, had approached Oshiwara Police on June 13, claiming, she was raped and cheated by Binoy since 2010. The complainant stated she had met Binoy in 2008 in Dubai and fallen in love.
Binoy, who was also settled in Dubai back then, had met her in a dance bar. She claimed Binoy had established sexual relations with her on the pretext of marrying her. Subsequently, in 2010, she gave birth to a son and soon shifted to Andheri, Mumbai with her son.
Binoy used to pay the house rent and give her money for monthly expenses, during his visits. In 2018, she found out Binoy was already married and had a family in Kerala.
