Mumbai : The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has received only 44 suggestions on their proposed coastal road project which is a matter of concern for the civic officials, as the deadline for submission of suggestions which is July 27, is fast approaching.
According to official sources, half of the emails are in appreciation about the project and many out of the other half are so daft that they cannot be incorporated into the plan.
A senior official on condition of anonymity said, “People have suggested to us to increase the length of the road, take it up to Dahisar or Virar, probably to improve connectivity to their own houses. Some people have written to us expressing concern about those who will be rehabilitated due to this project and have asked that we do justice while reclaiming the land. As far as I know, no environmentalist or urban planner has written to us yet”.
The BMC released the detailed project report of the coastal road that will run from Nariman Point to Borivali on June 24, and invited suggestions and objections from Mumbaikars. So far, many people have written to the BMC appreciating the project for its connectivity from their work place to their home. Many have suggested increasing the length of the road to improve connectivity to the areas where they live.
BMC’s spokesperson said, “This time also we are facing the problem we faced during the DP suggestions. There is duplication in the suggestions, as though one person has sent the exact same text from several email ids. We will have to sort the suggestions out and discard the duplicate emails before we can ascertain the exact number of genuine suggestions”.
