Mumbai: Ritu Tawde, Mayor of Mumbai, on the occasion of International Womens Day 2026, said that women are strong, capable and powerful, adding that the word 'weak' should no longer be associated with them.
While speaking to IANS, "Women are very strong. The word 'weak' should be removed from the dictionary—we are not weak. Every woman is strong, self-reliant, and powerful."
Earlier in the day, Tawde also participated in the 'Drive With Purpose – National Car Rally 2026' organised by the Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO) Ladies Wing in the city, which aimed at spreading awareness about diseases such as Cancer and Thalassemia. The drive began from Mahim Reti Bandar and proceeded along the Mumbai coastline.
The mayor congratulated the organisers and lauded their efforts for organising an initiative that combined social awareness, environmental responsibility and women’s empowerment.
On the ocassion of Women's Day, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, while speaking after inaugurating the two-day 'Vikasit Bharat Nari Shakti Sangam' Rural Women Leadership Conference and said women's leadership is pivotal to social progress and asserted his government is committed to fostering female empowerment through targeted schemes and increased opportunities.
"Increasing the participation of women across all sectors is the need of the hour. When provided with the right opportunities, women demonstrate exceptionally capable leadership," Maha CM said at an event organised in Uttan in Mira-Bhayander area.
Moreover, he also added that Maharashtra has set an ambitious target to financially empower 37 lakh women this year under the 'Lakhpati Didi' scheme.
While extending wishes on the occasion of Women's Day, Maharashtra CM also took to his social media and shared a video showing important role women played in India’s progress across sectors such as education, science, politics, administration, arts and industry.
The CM wrote, "Happy International Women's Day! Celebrating the strength, resilience, and leadership of women, today and every day."
