A tree fell on parked vehicles at Ranade Road in Dadar (west) on Monday affecting the traffic for some time. Fortunately, no injuries were reported since the incident took place early in the morning. However, one bike and car got damaged in the mishap. Mumbai fire brigade and staff of G North garden department immediately rushed to the spot and removed the tree from the spot, said the civic official. The tree must have collapsed due to cavities in the trunk, he added.

Last week a big neem tree was uprooted near the Carnac bridge in front of Musafir Khana.Every year, the city witnesses collapse of dangerous trees. Such incidents pose a serious threat to the lives of pedestrians. To avoid such incidents, the BMC's garden department undertakes tree trimming work through contractors every year.

The civic body annually spends around Rs 50 crore for tree trimming, still the city sees increased tree collapse incidents during the monsoon.

A total of 1,04,070 trees have been trimmed so far and notices have been sent to 9,400 housing societies in this regard, claimed the officials of the garden department last month.
