Mumbai: Assistant Director and a film producer have been arrested by Mumbai crime branch for duping hundreds of youth by promising job in Indian Railways. Assistant director, identified as Rajeshkumar Tanti (28) has been arrested along with Sarojkumar Rai (39) and a female accomplice.
Rajeshkumar was a assistant director of a popular daily serial and also runs a small time production house by name RRA Production in Motilal Nagar, Goregaon. Along with his film activities, Rajeshkumar runs an interstate job racket from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Hundreds of youths have been duped of assuring them jobs in Indian Railways, who paid the fraudsters Rs 7 lakh each on pretext of getting them jobs.
According to Mumbai police, “Rajeshkumar and his men posed as a Railway’s Chief Personal Officer (CPO) assuring the youth job offer. In order to gain trust they would show their fake ID cards. Job-seekers had been given appointment letters, and posting letters as well as they received the money from the job aspirants.”
Even after handing over Rs 7 lakh each, non of the aspirants got a job and when they checked with the railway authorities only then they realised it was a bogus offer and that they have been duped. The youths later lodged an official complaint to the Mumbai Crime branch.
After registering an First Information Report (FIR) under various sections, the crime branch finally arrested Rajeshkumar and Sarojkumar from Varanasi. During interrogation they came to know about their female accomplice who was later arrested from Andheri. All the accused have been produced in court on Thursday, which sent them to police custody till 3rd June.
