Mumbai: The proposal for repair works of the Himalaya Bridge that collapsed on Thursday, killing six and injuring 31 people outside the CSMT, was due in the upcoming standing committee meeting. The BMC had scheduled a meeting for next week.
The standing committee, BMC’s highest decision-making body, meets every Wednesday to pass important proposals related to the city. In the past weeks, the standing committee had passed proposals for repair work of more than 10 bridges.
The tender for the repair work of the Himalaya bridge was due in the upcoming meeting. “The proposal for the repair works was due in the upcoming meeting, however the tragic incident took place before the meeting could actually happen,” said the BMC standing committee member.
In the past few weeks, the standing committee in anticipation of the implementation of the model code of conduct had cleared proposals worth Rs 2,000 crore in the matter of hours, without any discussion.
