Mumbai: A 53-year-old man was arrested by NM Joshi Marg police for operating a fake Facebook profile of his ex-fiance and uploading objectionable content on the social media. The man, Ketan Harilal Yadav, was booked and arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Information Technology (IT) Act.

According to police, Yadav had met the Chinchwad-based complainant through an online matrimonial site after their profiles matched in the company’s database.

At the initial stages of introduction, Yadav lied to the woman’s family of residing in Navi Mumbai. In fact, he was a Borivali resident. Falling prey to the lies fed by Yadav, the woman’s family accepted the proposal and began preparing for the wedding.

However, to do a background check, the woman’s family sent her Mumbai-based relatives to meet him in person and check out his house in Navi Mumbai. Much to their surprise, Yadav met the family at a guest house and began making excuses to not show them the house. Eventually, he said he had sold it off for a better place at Palm Beach Road, just to dodge the bullet for the time being.

Not convinced by Yadav’s answers, the woman’s family rejected the proposal and broke off the marriage. Taken aback by rage, Yadav held a grudge and began sending messages to the woman’s brother, claiming she has been reported missing, just to spread panic. However, the move backfired, as the family blatantly ignored the messages. Refusing to accept it, Yadav then opened a fake Facebook account in the woman’s name and sent her sister a friend request.

On the behest of her account, Yadav uploaded a few personal photographs of the woman, along with the ones sent to him. The pics stunned her. She alerted the woman. The woman approached NM Joshi Marg police and registered a complaint. Yadav was apprehended from his Borivali residence and booked under relevant sections of the IPC and IT Act.
