The city on Thursday got a brief respite from the heavy downpour which continued unabated since the week’s start. Despite light to moderate showers, several tree fall and house collapse incidents were reported owing to gusty winds.
In just nine hours, 38 trees and their branches collapsed in the city. While three short circuits and house collapse incidents occurred during the day. However, there were no injuries in the mishaps.
So far, Mumbai has received 1,000 mm rain of the season’s total. The July’s incessant rains have even made up for the June’s shortfall. The total rainfall recorded by the India Meteorological Department’s Santacruz observatory touched 1,051 mm, which is now 296 mm above normal. Similarly, the Colaba observatory received 953.2 mm showers, which is 209 mm above normal.
On Thursday, Colaba observatory recorded 33.2 mm of rain while Santacruz recorded 13.3 mm.
