A 37-year-old jeweller Shailendra Pandey was shot dead in broad daylight at a jewellery shop in Rawalpada, Dahisar (E), on Wednesday morning.
According to the police, the incident took place at Om Sai Raj Jewellers at 10.10am. Three bike-borne men opened fire at the jeweler who was alone in the shop at the time of the incident. The accused then decamped with 20 tolas of gold jewellery. The victim was rushed to civic-run Shatabdi Hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries.
Soon after the incident, joint commissioner, law and order, Vishwas Nangre Patil, reached the spot and spoke to the victim’s family. One of Pandey’s relatives Anil Dubey said, “He never complained of any previous enmity. We suspect that robbery was not a motive and the assailants had planned this.”
While scanning the CCTV footage, the cops only found that the accused came on a vehicle that had a partially broken number plate. The accused could not be identified as they were wearing masks.
An eyewitness, Shivam Mishra, who owns a mobile shop in the vicinity, said, “Pandey arrived at the shop at 10am. Suddenly, I heard a loud sound. Initially, I thought something fell on the roof. But when I rushed out, I found Pandey lying in a pool of blood. The assailants escaped on their scooter.”
Shivam said that he immediately called up the police control room, but got no response. He then went to the police station.
During investigation, the cops learnt that one of the accused was wearing a white kurta and blue denims, while the other was wearing a full sleeved blue shirt. An officer said that police are recording statements of eyewitnesses and a parallel probe by the crime branch is underway. A case of murder has been registered. Meanwhile, a search is on for the accused trio.
