Mumbai: Man kills brother over property dispute in Govandi, arrested

Mumbai: The Shivaji Nagar police in Govandi arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly killing his elder brother over a property dispute between them. The accused attacked him twice with a sharp weapon on his abdomen and killed him.

The police said the deceased Aslam Qureshi 45, stayed with his wife and complainant in the case Nasreen Mohammed Aslam Qureshi, 30, at flat number 8, Durga Seva sangh, Gajanan colony in Shivaji Nagar area of Govandi.

The complainant in her statement to police allegedly that the accused Akram Qureshi 40, younger brother of her husband came to their house and asked them to vacate.

"Aslam refused to vacate the house claiming the house was given by his mother and he had the rights on it. An oral dispute further led to a fight, and Akram assaulted his elder brother with a sharp knife on his stomach twice and killed him," said a police officer.

The police said the incident took place on June 15 at 12:30 am in front of Salman general store, A. Holkar Marg, Shivaji Nagar Govandi. On the complaint of Nasreen the Shivaji Nagar police have registered a case under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian penal code and sections of the Maharashtra police act.

The police said the accused Akram fled away from the spot after the incident. A team of detection and Anti Gunda staff started a search operation to trace him. "We have arrested the accused on Wednesday afternoon for his invovement in the murder. He has confessed to the crime he committed. The fight was over a property dispute between the two brother's," said Kishore Gayke, senior police inspector, Shivaji Nagar police station.
