Govandi: Cops arrest senior citizen for murdering 52-year-old woman

Thane, June 7: The Govandi police on Monday have detained a 60-year-old man in connection to the murder case of a 52-year-old woman. The woman's body was found wrapped in a tarpaulin sheet and kept in a scrap container shed.

According to the complainant Naresh Rathod, 49, a resident of Mazgaon, the dead body was found on June 5, Saturday at 3pm in the unused container of a godown in Anwar compound, Chembur, Mumbai after foul smell was emitting from it. On June 6, the Govandi police sent the dead body for post mortem and found it to be a murder. The police further registered a case under section 302 (punishment for murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and started the investigation.

Through belongings found from the woman's body, the police identified her as Durga Khadka, 52, a resident of Ghatla in Chembur. Trying to reach out to her relatives, the police found a Nepali national who stays in the area. She has six children to take care of and does housemaid jobs for livelihood.

As per information provided by relatives of the deceased a suspect Mandingh Mohan, 60, a security guard was detained. "Mohan during questioning revealed his role in disposing of the dead body. However, further investigation is going on to check involvement of other people in the case," said a police official.

Balasaheb Kedare, senior police inspector, Govandi police station confirmed about a murder case registered on Sunday and said they are investigating the matter.
