Mumbai: Amboli police on Monday arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly stalking television producer Ekta Kapoor. The accused, Sudhirsingh Sangwan, was booked under section 354D of the IPC and was produced in a local magistrate court on Tuesday.
According to police, Sangwan had come to the city of dreams to make it big in Bollywood or television industry. He was trying to vet Kapoor for a role in one of her productions, but was not able to get an appointment for the purpose. When Kapoor noticed Sangwan was following her and stalking her repeatedly, she approached police on Monday.
She narrated her ordeal to police and said Sangwan had stalked her 37 times in the last two months from her residence to office and where ever she went. Bharat Gaikwad, the senior inspector of Amboli police station said, “The accused has confessed to the crime. He is a struggling actor wanting to make it big. He had no criminal intention or a past criminal record. Further probe is on.”
“Sangwan, who hails from Haryana, is a driver with private cab services was trying to meet her. A few days ago, when Kapoor had gone to a temple in Juhu, Sangwan had followed her there as well and tried to approach her, but was caught by her personal guards and was warned to stay away,” he said.
