Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced plans to construct a viewing tower adjacent to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai, providing a picturesque view of the city’s skyline and the Arabian Sea. According to The Indian Express, this tower will be part of BMC's Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) project.
Project details reveal that the tower will function as a sewage treatment facility while also aiming to attract tourists. Furthermore, it will showcase BMC's extensive history in civic management. Standing 50 metres tall, the tower will feature an open seating gallery and will include ramps and an elevator to ensure easy access, as reported by the Indian Express.
The first and ground floors of the tower will house a knowledge centre, which will spotlight BMC's history and its efforts toward water conservation. Due to its location near the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and the associated sensitivities, civic authorities allowed the STP's construction with the stipulation that it remain below ground level.
Consequently, essential treatment units, such as the membrane tank, are being built underground. The approved budget for the Bandra Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) project totals Rs 4,300 crore, with expectations for the tower's completion within two years and its opening to the public slated for 2027.
In another significant update for Mumbai residents, the final segment of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, stretching 76 km between Igatpuri and Amane, is set to be inaugurated alongside the southbound lane of the Thane Creek Bridge on May 1. When fully operational, the expressway is anticipated to notably shorten travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur, reducing it to just 8 hours for commuters between these two major cities in Maharashtra.
